The support you provide your young person as they explore their post‑secondary options really matters. We also understand that, at times, young people don’t always share updates with us as often as we might like! To help make this journey easier, we’ll share important information and opportunities with you, and keep you updated along the way.
The year has started well, with our staff visiting schools across Aotearoa New Zealand. During our school visits this term, we’ve been working with students to cover:
- Our entry requirements
- An overview of our programmes and study options
- Scholarship information and key eligibility criteria
- Accommodation options and when to apply
- A term‑by‑term timeline, outlining when key decisions, applications, and milestones happen throughout the year
We encourage students to explore their pathways early, including understanding any subject requirements that may be needed for their future study plans.
If you or your young person have any questions about our school engagements or post‑secondary pathways, the best first point of contact at school is the careers adviser, who can provide tailored guidance and support.

Engineering and Design Info Evenings 2026
Is your young person interested in Engineering, Architecture, Urban Planning, or Design? Help them discover their possibilities at the 2026 Engineering and Design Info Evenings this May. Students can explore study options, career pathways, and student life, hearing from academics, current students, and admissions experts. Registrations are now open!

Join our Women in Engineering Academy
Students who identify as female and enjoy maths and science, can join the Women in Engineering Academy to connect with a like-minded community of young people, and explore engineering pathways.

NZ Physics and Mathematics Competition 2026 round 1 registrations open
Registrations are now open. This is a national physics and mathematics problem‑solving competition for secondary students. Round 1 will be held online on Saturday 9 May, with Junior (Years 9-11) and Senior (Years 12-13) divisions available. Top performers will be invited to Round 2 in August at universities across Aotearoa.
Registrations close Sunday 26 April.

The NZ Economics Competition 2026
This is NZ's biggest economics challenge for secondary students. In 2024, over 2,000 students from 57 schools took on a 50‑minute quiz covering classroom topics and real‑world issues.If you’re into understanding how the world works, register now.
Registrations close 6 May.

Get support with free math & science tutoring. Registrations open in March. Keep up to date by following the team on Instagram.

Māori in Health | Whaka Piki Ake
Tauira Māori who want to explore health pathways, can join the Whaka Piki Ake journey. Get support while at highschool to achieve health career aspirations.

Young Scholars Programme
143 high‑achieving students have joined the University as a young scholar this year. High-achieving Year 12 students can apply for the free extension programme this year. Courses for the 2027 intake will be confirmed in July, with applications opening shortly after.
Applications close 8 December.
